November 2014 Newsletter
November - the silly season starts early!
It's all about fun and functions at Jamison Flowers this month.
Weddings, parties, in fact anything with champagne!
We can't believe it's November already! Santa will be here before
we know it and we'll be farewelling another year! October
disappeared in a whirl of excitement for all of us at Jamison Flowers.
We finished the month at the Gala dinner for the Telstra Business
Women of the Year Awards. I was so honoured to be a finalist this
year and it was great to be able to share the night with my family and
staff. I met lots of amazing Canberra women and made lots of great
contacts. My award, signed by the guest of honour Lane Beachley
(thanks Nan!), is proudly displayed in the shop! Thank you to
everyone who called, texted and emailed their congratulations, the
support was so wonderful. It truly was a fantastic and amazing
experience!
November started with a huge party to celebrate staff member Kirsten's
40th birthday! When a florist has a party, you can be certain
there'll be lots of flowers, and we didn't disappoint! Elegant
long, low table arrangements full of Sahara roses, hydrangeas, peonies
and spray roses dressed the tables, along with tall vases of twisted
willow and vine. Kirsten and her friends emptied Canberra's op
shops of lace doilies which were hung from the sticks and used to covered
vases which glowed with candle light. Two huge tubs of flowers
greeted the guests who were suitably impressed with all our hard work!
It's always fun to decorate a party, but it's even better when you
get to go to it as well! We also created centrepieces for a 100th
birthday on the same weekend, we love a good celebration!
Wedding season is continuing and keeping us very busy. The hot
weather is proving to be a big challenge and proves how important it is
to treat wedding flowers with the utmost care to ensure they're looking
their absolute best for the big day. We always pack our wedding
bouquets in a special wedding box, and while it makes them look
spectacular, the reason we do it is to ensure they're kept in water until
the bridal party is ready to leave for the ceremony. The box holds
containers of water which the bouquets sit in until the last possible
moment.
Now I don't want to make you panic, but Christmas isn't that far away,
and that means Christmas wreaths! We will be making wreaths for
sale in December but we'll also be holding a very special class to teach
a lucky few how to make their own! After our fantastically
successful flower school this year, we thought we'd give it one last go
for 2014. We'll only be holding one class where you'll learn how to
make a Christmas wreath and a Christmas table arrangement. Keep an
eye out for all the details on our Jamison Flowers Facebook page.
Off to buy the shop Christmas tree......! Until next month.
