September - Spring has sprung!

Our favourite time of the year is finally here! Join us in our celebrating the colour and wonder of spring!

The weather is warming up, the birds are singing and the bulbs are starting to flower - spring has arrived! Our favourite season is the most wonderful reward for surviving another cold Canberra winter. It's so exciting to be able to shove our winter coats back into the cupboard, get rid of some of those layers and get out and enjoy the sunshine. The warmer weather makes everyone smile more - even the flowers!

Spring means one thing in Canberra and that is Floriade. In Canberra's centenary year, the flower spectacular promises to be bigger and better than ever. More than 400,000 people visit Floriade every year to see one million flowers and be part of the month long festival. This year the theme is "Beautiful Innovation". The special garden beds will represent Canberra's national attractions, including the National Gallery, the Institute of Sport and the National Museum. There will even be a garden bed representing Walter Burley Griffin's competition winning design for Canberra. Floriade is always such a wonderful place for a picnic and a wander, the biggest challenge is keeping the very excited little people from picking flowers to take home!

We will be holding our very own Floriade at Jamison Flowers thanks to all the wonderful bulbs which are now available from our Australian growers. The difference with our flowers is that you are allowed to pick them and take them home! Our flower stand will be literally bursting over the next few months with flowering bulbs including daffodils, jonquils, tulips, hyacinths, anemones, freesias, gladioli, iris and snowdrops. Our flower of the month for September is one of our all-time favourites, ranunculus. Ranunculus are a wonderful cut flower which come in a variety of colours from whites and creams to intense reds, oranges and pinks. They have straight, long stems and a long vase life which makes them a must for any spring time bouquet or arrangement. The flower meaning for ranunculus is "I am dazzled by your charms" and they certainly dazzle us!

While we're talking about being dazzled, we also had another Jamison Flowers road trip last month to Australia's biggest gift expo in Melbourne. Oh……my……goodness….it was a gift buyers dream come true! There were two enormous pavilions absolutely packed full of every possible gift you could imagine. Our reward for wading through thousands of teddy bears was discovering the most beautiful ribbons, paper, cards and gift tags. We also found some gorgeous Christmas decorations which we will have in store later in the year and some great hessian sacks which will be fantastic for Christmas hampers!

We were also very excited to send off our bunch of birthday flowers to our competition winner for August! Congratulations Veronika Bennetts! We hope you loved your gladioli, the birth flower for August. Don't forget it's not too late to enter our competition, look out for it on our Facebook page, just search for Jamison Flowers.

Signing off with a spring in my step……Love Rosie.
